I love the cat, lulubelle, but I nearly died because I thought it was no problem to allow her to bite me randomly. So, if you do not want to keep your cat away from you when you do your activities or you know the cat usually bites you, then perhaps you need to start wearing oven mitts or heavy Lumberjack type of work gloves. And also keep a Medic Alert bracelet or necklace on if you are allergic to penicillin.
You will know if you have been bitten and it draws blood, also known as puncture wound, and the wound May heal up within an hour, but then you will see the swelling of your veins like a snake underneath your skin.
This is the blood being poisoned. And you have less than 6 hours to get to the emergency room to start an IV drip of heavy-duty antibiotics. Have I scared you yet? You must learn to change your behavior to save your life and to keep your cat.
Perhaps if you spend time twice a day maybe 20 minutes at a time focused on the cat with play toys, such as the fishing rod type of toy and the long sticks with butterflies at the end excetera.
Keeping your distance but playing with your cat prior to you doing your own activities The cat will go and let you do your thing? Also I have taught my cat, or rather she taught me, how to play Paper baseball and paper soccer.
Just roll up scratch pieces of paper, little tiny ones like a ping pong ball, but it has to be paper so they can chew on it and tear it apart, and toss them and the cat catches it rips it apart Etc. I get a whole bucket of the paper and spent about 20 minutes playing this game almost every day.
I am gun-shy with my new cat that also gives me these cat bites if I scratch her cheeks and then suddenly she whips her head around and tries to bite me. If I go in the hospital I have no one to take care of my dog and my cat so I cannot afford for this new cat to bite me. Also with the Coronavirus…. So I have long handle brushes that I have trained myself to use all the time instead of hand petting my cat. And the cat loves it!
No harm, no blood poisoning, no foul! Good luck! On one finger. Cat and most large sharks carry the pathogen called pasteurella m. It causes sepsis also known as blood poisoning. It looked like a snake was under my skin. That was the blood being poisoned and was going up to my adrenal gland under my armpit. The emergency room doctor said if I came any later they would have had to amputate my arm! Also I am allergic to penicillin so they spent three days trying to find mild but tough antibiotic to save my life… I learned to wear protective fake leather work gloves around my cat.
I cannot afford to go back into the hospital especially during coronavirus. There will be no one that will take care of my pets if I am in the hospital. You have to learn to change your behavior. And I trust we all know that the experts say it is wrong to verbally scold any pet nowadays.
All you can do is show your cat that what they did hurt by keeping your eyes wide open and walking away. Also, do you have to use the long stick toys and not allow anyone to pet your cat but only use a cat brush. It is you that has to change your behavior.
Also, spend at least two times a day 20 minutes minimum of playing with your cat before you do your own activities. What are you, a psychopath? Why such a mean comment? Your words are jarring, unnecessary and totally uncalled for. Regardless, to each their own. That is totaly uncalled for and unessecary! My cat bites for all the reasons mentioned PLUS hearing certain sounds from devices such as cell phone or…ipad!! She gets noticably aggressive I shut device off she instantly calms down.
Remember cats hearing is far superior to our own and so possibly those sounds are too much for your kitty to handle. Remember play with a toy not your hands that would just exacerbate the problem. My cat does the exact thing. For example, just now, my Pepper was resting on my lap. I was holding him. I was not petting him. I was not watching him. I was using my iPad. Out of nowhere, he bites my arm.
He does this on numerous occasions. We do have another cat special needs , and she stays out of his way. We also have three dogs, two of whom are 14 years old. We need to stop him biting ASAP. He is pretty much Dr. Hyde personality. Well my Pepperoni is a fresh butt too! Play with him with a wand toy and create a routine so he knows what times he will get played with the best time to play is before mealtime.
No free feeding get home relax a little then play with kitty till he is laying on his side batting at the toy but refusing to get up lol then feed him same sequence in the morning. The more you play the less he will attack you. Play with pepperoni create a routine before you feed him everytime you feed him play with him using a wand toy until he is tired.
The more you play with him the less he will attack you out of boredom. She gets noticsbly aggressice I shut device off she instantly calms down. His favorite toy is a string on a stick with some braided colorful pipe cleaners. Purring can mean more then that a cat is happy or contented. It can mean they are distressed in some way. And actually their purr has healing effects to both them and humans. There have been studies done to prove the healing effects on humans and not just a psychological.
He had never been much for love bites. Whenever my ex and were in bed together KitKit would get between us and he would very gently but VERY firmly bite my cheek. I would tell him to stop but have to pry his jaws apart. If my ex tried Kit would his but not let go. I had to be the one to pry him off. Then Kit would wrap all his legs around my arm. Kit demonstrated this behavior until my ex no longer lived with me.

My cats both like chewing on plastic , especially thicker, soft plastic like the types that keep tissue boxes together in packs of 6 or One of my cats, Bjorn, likes chewing so much I bought him a slew of cat chew toys to try out. When sticky things find their way into fur, when cats have pieces of debris stuck in their nails, when there are mats of hair that need to be pulled apart, the teeth come out and biting becomes as natural a part of the grooming session as licking.
Your cat biting you while being affectionate may be — to him or her — something like grooming you. If your cat often licks you as well , seems to me to be a stronger possibility. When cats allogroom, or lick and groom one another, research seems to be showing they do it not just for hygiene reasons , and not even mainly for hygiene. It appears to be a socialization behaviour, one that a dominant cat does to a less dominant cat, that reduces their stress and keeps the peace of the colony.
Cats love getting their scents all over things they feel are theirs — and that includes people. Do you have a cat who does this — have multiple cats who do this? Do they all sort of bite in the same way or have different quirks about their love bites?
What do you think are theories likely to be true? Which theories do you feel are unlikely to be accurate? Have any stories related to share? Obsessed with cats. Figured I might as well blog about 'em. Fond of my fluffies? Dig KittyClysm? While this is typically hard to do, toys like these that allow cats to play by themselves make the job one heck of a lot easier.

I want to try to capture him to take him to the state to be fixed.
Both females have had their kittens. What a mess. Will try to get all captured, fixed and released. I know very little about cats as I have dogs. He is always so cute! He staples knuckles, wrists, elbows, and even knees on occasion. Why is he bringing his kitty bowl and dumping it on my bed? One time bowl was empty but another time there was cat food? I love cats, and found the more I learnt, the more there was to know! Cats are incredible and unique. I now understand exactly how my cat is feeling and what he has always been trying to tell me.
One of my cats, Holly, has the habit of rubbing her chin along my jaw, and then shoving her face into my hand and nibbling my palm, all the while purring up a storm. She is the most effusively affectionate of the cats we have, the others are much more laid-back. I took in my stray two years ago after instantly bonding. He was quite sick and required about three months of TOC and medication. He has always been super affectionate, playful and a total lap cat.
He has always loved it when I cup his head — he buries his face in my hand and then nibbles gently at my thumb. Sometimes he wraps his paws around my wrist, never extends his claws and locks my hand. He often rolls on his back and loves belly rubs. I think he trusts me completely and loves the attention.
I figure as long as he seems happy and content, he can nibble away! My kitty talks to me when I talk to her. I live alone and she forefills my loneiness. She comes up and gives me love bits on my wrist. She has a special personally about from the 9 cats I feed which are related.
They are all my kids and they all sleep in my bedroom with me.. I am to get the 3 females fixed and shots. And the rest are makes. Then Marshmallow and Skittles because she has mixed colors. I enjoy them. And they all love me Johnnie Jackson, NC. I usually move away but she will follow me. My kitty Puma I have I found while I was working he was in a bush he was newborn baby we still at his umbilical cord on.
It was probably 2 or 3 days old. It was extremely hot outside. I became his mommy. I fed him replacement Kitty milk through a syringe. I got a little cat carrier that was made of material and he would go everywhere with me. And I got a little bottle feed him from to be a bigger kitty. So every morning he wants to greet me with his little love bites. At first I thought it was a good idea to stop him from doing this. But then I realized he was just playing and bonding.
My cat does this sometimes. It usually works. I adopted a very shy 3 month old kitten about a month and a half ago.
He has come into his own little personality, especially around me. My female cat wraps her paws tight around my wrist. Then chomps on my knuckles. Without releasing my hand. When I pull away she bites again in attempts to hold me still. Yoda is a lovely boy. Tinks is her own girl. She then just loves to flop onto her side with her head pressed onto a hand. A classic love bite. They give us both so much back. If anyone needs a cat, I have to say, do rescue an unwanted older cat.
She only wants affection on her terms. Leave me alone. Has zero interest in being his friend or playmate. Tacocat is the exact opposite. He is almost 2 and the most loveable little guy you could ever meet. He loves pets at anytime. Rolls over and exposes his belly for us to rub and scratch. He comes looking for us so that he can get lovins if it has been too long since his last session.
He will, very gently, bite my wrist while rubbing his belly. No pressure at all. And he nudges and licks my hand and fingers afterwards with his purrbox blaring.
He usually will put his head under your hand and nudge at you if he thinks you stopped too soon. He is the best three legged cat ever! I love both of my furry friends equally, but Tacocat steals my heart with his love. I adopted a cat that I named Princess, named after my male cat Prince who was hit by a car about 3 months ago. She is precious! Also, truly fits her name. Princess is a shiny, long haired black and white gift.
She is so lovable and adores me. She gives me little bites and head bunts and seems to understand everything I tell her. I wondered what these little nips meant so I googled it and read exactly what I expected because I did assume she has truly taken me on as her mother.
She is 8 months old, spayed and very well behaved already. She brings me so much joy and stays where I do, even when we go outdoors. Many years ago a tailless kitten showed up at our door. Sunshine was probably 4 weeks old. He immediately adopted my spouse as his person and a great love affair began. In February my spouse died after a long bout with cancer.
Sunshine saw me leave the house with my spouse and when I returned home alone his world was shattered. He disappeared inside the house for 6 months. He would come out to eat, drink water, and use the kitty box, All activity was done covertly either when I was otherwise occupied or at night. He is now 17 and very fragile but the vet says he is in great shape for an old cat. He has adopted me as his replacement person and when he wants petting will sit on my chest and let me pet him and groom him.
He gives love bites at times but never hurts me. He is declawed and will ever so gently reach out and pat my nose if he wants more petting. My cat is very loving and affectionate and when I pet him he always gives me very gentle little nibbles. My sister gave me her cat due to behavior issues. My cat is often lonely at night when the household goes to sleep. If I should happen to come downstairs in the dark for some reason, she seems excited that I have come down, but sometimes she also seems to get aggressive.
She will charge at me, follow me closely and try to bite my legs.
